Mistfall Hunter: Traditional Chinese now trails Russian

Mistfall Hunter News 11 min read

Mistfall Hunter’s inverted language ordering is not a one-day artifact either. All-time Steam totals, pulled fresh today, still put Russian near the bottom (40.3%) and Brazilian Portuguese at the top (69.7%) — the reverse of the usual pattern, where English trails and Simplified Chinese sits low. English (55.4%) and Simplified Chinese (50.1%) now sit close together in the middle of the pack, and it is Traditional Chinese, on 346 reviews, that has replaced Russian as the single lowest language at 34.4%.

Mistfall Hunter, all-time positive rate by language Steam appreviews query_summary totals, re-queried 2026-09-13 Portuguese (BR) 69.7% (n=756) Thai 65.1% (n=126) Spanish 62.9% (n=587) French 60.3% (n=494) Turkish 57.5% (n=299) German 56.6% (n=854) English 55.4% (n=7,858) Chinese (Simpl.) 50.1% (n=2,522) Japanese 41.5% (n=265) Russian 40.3% (n=2,322) Korean 40.0% (n=160) Chinese (Trad.) 34.4% (n=346) Twenty-nine languages carry reviews, all-time. Portuguese and Traditional Chinese anchor opposite ends; Korean (n=160) sits 0.3 points above Russian, both close behind it.

The ordering is still upside down

In every other game measured with this method, Simplified Chinese sits at or near the bottom and English near the top. Mistfall Hunter still reverses both on the full count: Simplified Chinese (50.1%) reads higher than Russian (40.3%), Korean (40.0%) and Traditional Chinese (34.4%), and the game’s three lowest-scoring languages are Traditional Chinese, Korean and Russian rather than the usual East Asian block — though Korean’s total is a thin 160 reviews, and it sits just 0.3 points below Russian, closer to a tie than a ranking.

The spread is 35.3 points between Brazilian Portuguese (69.7%) and Traditional Chinese (34.4%) on all-time totals, narrower than the August sample’s 42 points but still one of the widest spreads on the site, and still the one where the ordering does not follow the usual pattern.

That inversion is the reason this game is worth a separate look. A theory that says “some review cultures are harsher” cannot produce a Chinese figure sitting mid-table here and near the bottom in Project Zomboid. Whatever is happening is about the game, not the reviewers.

The Russian corpus is about connection quality

What the Russian-language negatives are about Mistfall Hunter, 160 negative reviews from a 200-review Russian pull Servers / performance 41% (65 of 160) Balance 27% (43 of 160) Cheating 14% (23 of 160) Seasons / updates 6% (10 of 160) Price 4% (7 of 160) Russian keyword set. Topic analysis is not run on the Portuguese pull — see Method.

Of 160 negative Russian reviews, 41% mention servers, optimisation, lag or connection drops — the highest single-topic concentration in any pull on this site. Balance follows at 27%, cheating at 14%.

One 2-hour reviewer sums up the shape of it: the game is good, but playing it takes a sack of patience because the connection keeps dropping. A 117-hour reviewer opens by calling the genre interesting and the characters varied — then turns to the hub’s implementation. These are not drive-by reviews; the complaint is specific and it is infrastructure.

That matches what the English-language breakdown found — performance leads there too, at 43% of negatives in the original sample — and the studio has been shipping against it, including a server stutter optimisation update on 15 August. What the language split adds is that the same problem is not landing evenly.

The full count, against the August sample

All-time, Simplified Chinese (50.1%, n=2,522) now reads above Russian and Traditional Chinese rather than second from the top as the 100-review sample had it, and English (55.4%) sits close to the middle of the pack rather than second from the bottom. The sample had the general shape right — Portuguese near the top, Russian near the bottom — but not the order in the middle, which a 100- review spot check was never going to resolve for languages clustered within a few points of each other.

Reading the language spread before you buy

  • Choosing whether to play now: the complaint is connection quality, which depends on where you connect from. The 35-point spread is a rough map of where that is currently worst.
  • Reading the aggregate: no language here clears 70%, so the spread does not hide a happy community — it shows degrees of unhappiness, matching the falling approval the playtime piece tracks by hours played instead of language.
  • Judging the studio’s response: the patches target the right thing. Whether they worked is not answerable from a single-day read.

All twenty-nine languages, all-time

The chart above shows the eleven languages with enough volume to plot cleanly. The full sweep checked every Steam-supported language code against this appid; twenty-nine came back with at least one review (Arabic returned zero and is dropped from the table). Below n=100, a handful of reviews can swing the percentage by ten points or more, so treat the bottom of this table as noisy, not ranked.

Method, and its limits

The all-time figures above are query_summary totals: every review Steam has on file for that language, pulled with num_per_page=0. The appid is public and the endpoint is unauthenticated, so anyone can re-run the same twenty-nine queries and land on the same counts. Rates from the original 2026-08-27 spot check, kept below for the topic work, are positive over total per 100-review pull.

Topic analysis is reported for Russian only, from that original pull. A validated keyword set exists here for English, Simplified Chinese and Russian. The Portuguese pull was read but not classified, because running a keyword set built for other languages over Portuguese text produces near-zero matches — which would look like “Brazilian players do not complain about servers” when it means the method did not look. Reading the Portuguese negatives by hand, server and balance complaints are plainly present; that is an observation, not a measurement, and it is not charted above.

What the 29-language sweep doesn’t settle

  • Whether the 15 August stutter update moved any language’s figure. No before-window is retrievable from the endpoint.
  • Whether language maps to server region. Strongly suggested by the complaint text, not measured.
  • Portuguese and Traditional Chinese topic rates, for the reason given under Method — Traditional Chinese is now the lowest-scoring language on the all-time count but was not part of the original topic pull.
  • Region pricing, which is not a field the review endpoint records.
